Tony Young, As sure as I eat black-eyed peas and collard greens with hog jowls every New Year's Day, we Americans love our traditions. Whether it's our taste in music, what we wear, what and how we celebrate, or what we like to eat, our culture is centered on tradition. For hunters, our passion for the outdoors and preserving our hunting traditions ranks right up there with apple pie, baseball and cowboy boots.

Maps, Hunting Rules and Regulation Book, hunting area map, GPS, compass, checklist, hunting tags etc… Keep everything together and organized so when you need it… you can find it.

So… you have finally saved up enough money and made up your mind to take that hunting trip of a lifetime. At this point, you probably have already picked a game species to hunt and the state or province where you plan on pursuing that game animal.

In order to point you in the right direction I have listed the top tips to help you plan for that memorable hunting trip you are about to take.

Ask the guide for the absolute essentials that you will need for the hunt you are paying for. You will thank yourself later…trust me! Get yourself in better shape months before your trip and you will enjoy your adventure even more.

Make a list of questions so the process goes smoothly and quickly. The more prepared you are, the more enjoyable your trip is going to be. If you are going to use a bow, make sure that you practice and when you think that you have practiced enough…practice some more.

Practice shooting in all shooting positions since it is most likely that the moment that you are to take a shot, it will not be in your usual target practice position. Take an extra string and some bow tuning tools.

Make a kid’s first hunting trip great

Pack extra broadheads and some practice points to shoot in between hunts at camp to maintain your accuracy. If you are using a rifle put in enough time at the range until you are satisfied that you can accurately hit your target. Practice shooting as far as your personal skill allows you to and know your limits.

First hunting trip

When we were on our first hunting trip, we had read somewhere that deer only made an appearance at the crack of dawn. By the time a.m. rolled around, we still hadn’t seen anything, so we left. When we returned about an hour later to lay more corn, we not only saw a deer, but we were able to take her down.

Terry was awesome. We had a great hunting trip and gained a lot of knowledge about hunting in general at the same time. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable and every meal was great.
